Auditioning for the Paris Choral Society
This evening to the American Cathedral in Paris for an audition for the Paris Choral Society. The choir was formed in the 1990s and has been going ever since. This season they are doing a concert with two massive pieces of repertoire programmed: Poulenc’s 'Stabat Mater' and Frank Martin’s 'Mass for Double Choir'. Happily, the audition went well and I was admitted to the choir. Unlike my old choir in Oxford, where tea and cake (very English!) were served in the rehearsal break, this choir has wine and cheese—suitably French! I took an early supper with minimal cooking on account of rehearsal. It rained heavily all day until finally the sky cleared just as the sun was setting.
Lunch: scrambled eggs on toast, with crispy bacon and seared cherry tomatoes. Dinner: Mesclun salad, with grilled asparagus and bacon shards.
